Sailboats Honored for Season Long Efforts

The Lake Pend Oreille Yacht Club (LPOYC) concluded its 2018 season with the the last race of the Fall Growler series, the Bob and Jean Moore Race. Twenty-two boats participated in at least one of the twenty-one races held between April and September. Of these, nineteen qualified to participate in the season championship, the Commodore’s Cup, sponsored by the Captain’s Wheel, to be held September 29-30.

Commodore’s Cup to Welcome Guests

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in allowing non-qualifying boats to participate in our end of season championship regatta – the Commodore’s Cup – sponsored by the Captain’s Wheel.

According to our Sailing Instructions, to qualify to compete for the Commodore’s Cup, a boat must have completed at least three series races, and finish in the top eight of their fleet.

Summer Dance Claims 2018 Lake King Title

In Wednesday night racing, participation and consistency are the keys to winning. The first annual Lake King competition wrapped up with the Catalina 22, sailed by Ken Billing, claiming the title. In head to head matchups, Ken was undefeated during series 3, but his record during the entire summer is quite impressive: Series 1 – 1st in fleet, 4th overall; Series 2 – 3rd in fleet, 4th overall; Series 3 – 1st in fleet, 1st overall.

Captain’s Wheel to Sponsor Commodore’s Cup

For the past few years our friends at the Captain’s Wheel have sponsored the season ending championship regatta. This year is no exception! Be sure to thank these fine folks next time you are in the neighborhood.

Wednesday Night – Winners Named

Series 2 ended in dramatic fashion in the dark and with moon light. Thanks to everyone who made the last race memorable. Special thanks to the ice creamers!!!

The Overall Champion and Lake King again is Lady of the Lake who won the spinnaker division. But, they were pressed to the end by Potato Farm, winners of the non-spin division! Only one point made the difference.

Perfect conditions for evening racing, but only 6 boats sailed the race. Winds were very good, and the temperature was easy on all.
